Dimitri started sailing as a kid during the family holidays. At the age of 15 he first competed in an international event in the Europe class. While studying at the Delft University of Technology he participated in the Tour de France a la Voile in 2009 and 2010. After that he progressed into different international keelboat one design classes like the Farr 30, Melges 32, Farr 40 and RC44 sailing alongside some of the best sailors in the world and learning a lot from them along the way. On the side he also developed himself in offshore sailing by participating in the Mini Transat solo transatlantic race in 2015.
